Notes:

Under the leadership of GM Tran Trieu Quan it was decided in 2007 to go to Africa to develop our ITF on this Continent. Ethiopia was the first country with almost 5.000 members which applied for membership in the same year. Kenya followed in 2008 and South Africa in 2011.

Now we are working in Ethiopia (myself), Kenya (myself and Mr. Niklas Enander 6th degree from Sweden), Uganda (Mr. Enander), Mozambique (myself) and for the first time in history of ITF an Ethiopian instructor (Wogayehu Behailu/5th degree) will visit Kenya in April 2013 to conduct a seminar in Nairobi. Sending instructors from inside the African Continent should be our goal and future strategy. This will keep the costs low and the countries receive more independence and autonomy.

Mr. Enander 6th degree from Sweden

Zambia and Zimbabwe practitioners will be at the seminar in Mozambique and hopefully another seminar can be conducted in 2013 in South Africa.

How was this previous success possible ?

From my point of view there are three reasons:

  1. The ITF invested money and send also GM’s, Masters and Instructors for the development of Taekwon-Do in Africa and covered the flight tickets.
  2. There were instructors who are willing to develop ITF in Aftrica.
  3. Fundraising initiative of Master Paul Weiler and ITF Germany which was an example and motivation for other countries to support this. In 2009 he started collecting doboks, safety equipment and money      for the development. The following national federations, companies, members and individuals followed the example:

Germany:       - ITF-NW = Regional Federation of ITFGermany

                        - TOP TEN under the guidance of Mr. Peter Kruckenhauser

                        - Master Wagner and Mrs. Wagner started the initiative to produce wristbands for

National tournaments in Germany and at the 4thWorld Cup held in Brighton, sold these wristbands and donated the income forAfrica!

- Med. Doctor Anton Klein

ITF-Members:- Continental Federation of Australia & Oceania

- Continental Federation ofEurope

- FITAE = National Association ofItaly

                        - NTN = National Association ofNorway

                        - Master Per Andresen = President of NTNNorway

                        - Master Afred Yu = President of National FederationHong Kong

                        - Mr. Harry van Schaik (Netherlands)

                        - Mr. Niklas Enander (Sweden)

    Master Weiler meetings

With the money we could effort to buy 300 square meters of mats for the tournament in Ethiopia and covered the transportation costs of 3.200,00 €. The previous donation of Norway and Germany will help to go ahead with the next steps. There will be surprises in the near future!

But the donation in kind were also important (doboks, safety equipments).

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our donors!

At the same time I guarantee that everything which was donated for Africa is also used in Africa!

Yours in Taekwon-Do

Master Paul Weiler
