The Annual General Meeting of the Irish Taekwon-Do Association, the National Association for ITF Taekwon-Do in Ireland, took place in the Horse & Jockey Hotel, Co. Tipperary on Sunday the 11th January. The AGM was attended by 42 instructors from around the country.

During the AGM, the activities of the association in 2014 were reviewed. 2014 was a very successful year which saw the expansion of the association, record numbers in attendance at tournaments and more success at an international level for the Irish National team.

President’s Address by Master Kenneth Wheatley:

“On behalf of the Board of Directors I welcome and thank everyone for coming to today’s Annual General Meeting of the Irish Taekwon-Do Association. We welcome Master Frank Murphy who recently joined the ITA and is indeed flourishing with his new Taekwon-Do family. Welcome Sir.

Before we move into 2015 I feel we should reflect upon and of course celebrate the activities of 2014.

I will mention only some of the activities as there were so many during the year.

At the 92nd IIC in Dublin Mr. Kinsella, Mr. Ryan, Mr. Byrne, Mr. Rigney and Mr. Coughlan were all promoted to 6th degree. Our congratulations and job well done gentlemen.

At the same IIC Master promotions were awarded to Master Tim Forde, Master Terry Donnelly and Master Paul Delea. This promotion I would suggest to be the achievement of a lifetime in Taekwon-Do. Congratulations also to our new Masters.

At the ITA summer black belt grading 35 candidates promoted to their next levels and at our winter black belt grading no less than 46 candidates promoted with a 100% success rate achieved on the second day of testing. Quite an indicator of the level of competence attained by those who presented for their 1st degree promotions.

Another milestone achievement during the year for the ITA was the publication of the second edition of our syllabus manual written by Mr Byrne and Mr Ryan which gives our Instructors a very powerful tool to enhance the progression and education of their students.

Our tournaments have evolved and grown, with record attendances through the support of our instructors and their students. We are now also attracting international participants, again another indicator to the levels of professionalism achieved by the organisers and indeed everyone involved.

• The ITA Dublin Open 600 plus competitors with visitors from Norway, Scotland, Canada, Czech Republic and Italy.
• ITA Cork Open 600 plus competitors from 35 clubs in Ireland and visitors from Scotland and Germany
• ITA Irish Cup UL 600 plus competitors and again with visitors from Italy, Netherlands, Spain and England.

Internationally our squads continue to excel winning many Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and with the Irish team ranking in the overall top places. Incredible results and the fruits of countless hours of dedicated preparation, our compliments to the competitors, coaches, managers and supporters. Also due to the success of the National Team we have attracted sponsorship at National Team level from both Top Ten and Mighty Fist, two of the approved vendors to the ITF.

With thanks to our business committee we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the Business Development & Technical Seminar with Master Per Andresen VIII Dan from Norway. A very informative seminar and interesting the approach to running an association and schools.

Our Strategic Plan comes to it’s end of term this year and I believe we have been very successful in achieving the goals set out thereupon. Many of the tasks have been completed and some are in process but will come to fruition during 2015.

As I mentioned earlier there were many events and activities during 2014, events and activities which have taken the ITA to new levels of competence and professionalism.

I am privileged to have the opportunity to commend the efforts and commitment of our Board of Directors and our working committees. The individuals involved offer their support and effort, give their precious time and proactively seek to continually improve the very existence of our association. Our professionalism, our growth, our individual and collective successes are not accidental; the activities, efforts and drive of our Board, working committees, instructors and individuals play a considerable role in getting us to where we need to be.

To those persons involved I offer my gratitude firstly as President and secondly as an individual whose fortune has placed them in what has evolved into the hugely progressive and successful Taekwon-Do association that it is today.

I am excited to welcome the coming year, as you will again see from our calendar of events 2015 will be a very busy year for the ITA, but with the support of our Taekwon-Do community, Instructors and Individuals I am of firm belief it will again be a hugely successful year for the ITA.

Thank you and I wish you very good fortune for 2015.”

Dear Members,

We are experiencing discrepancies between the 100 IIC Organising Committee applicant records and the ITF Database applicant records.  We have many applicants who have not registered with the ITF Database but are registered with the 100 IIC Organising Committee and we also have applicants registered with the ITF Database, but have not registered with the IIC Organising Committee.

All applicants registering for the 100 IIC PLEASE REGISTER FIRST THROUGH THE APPLICATION ON, or using the application form in the 100 IIC Information Pack which can be downloaded from the ITF website and send to .  Once registered all applicants MUST REGISTER THEIR APPLICATIONS WITH THE ITF DATABASE.  This must be done through the country’s NA or AA.

Please can all existing candidates not registered with the 100 IIC Organising Committee please do so as soon as possible as there is vital information on the IIC application that we need in order to process your application.

Thank you for your assistance with our organising.

Best regards

 Master Wallace VIII

For and on behalf of

100 IIC Organising Committee

Numbers for the 100th IIC which takes place from the 13th to the 15th of March 2015 are growing fast. The hosts are receiving some incomplete applications however so please pay attention to the following request:

We are experiencing some incomplete information from several applicants and also we still have many applications with subscription and banquet payments outstanding, so we would thank our applicants if they could help us with our administrations and please complete everything in full.

  • ·         The National Association is the ITF Governing Body for your country and not your schools eg. ITF Scotland, ITF England, ITA, INTA, FITAE etc
  • ·         You need to be aware of this as you MUST inform your NA as they MUST give permission, by registering your course application with ITF HQ in Spain, for you to attend the course and for us as course administrators, to ensure that all applicants are bonafide ITF members.
  • ·         Your ITF ID number is NOT your degree certificate and yes everyone has one.  If you do not have one please contact your NA to provide you with the details. Please do not send your application with “Don’t have one” or “Not Applicable”.
  • ·         Your ITF degree cert number will be country reference eg GB, followed by the rank 1, 2,3 etc, followed by the cert issue number 3345, 456 etc.

3.       For those who have already applied for the banquet, can you please look out for an email from our admin pertaining to the banquet food choices, so we can prepare these in advance.  The new applications will have the choices included in the banquet section.

4.       The banquet has been changed to the Friday Night, as we had to change venues due to large numbers attending.

5.       The banquet will be prepared in a totally Scottish evening and as hosts we will be in our traditional Scottish dress.  We will be going to a local formal dress hire company to see if we can negotiate a special “banquet” price for a complete highland dress hire for the evening.  These cost will be distributed and we will post an order/self measurement form for you to complete.  We will collect and return the dress hire for you before and after the event.

Please find the updated info pack here:

The C.I.T.I. Allied Association (Center Instructors Taekwon-Do ITF Uruguay) ends 2014 highlighting, in the opinion of Sabun Nim Gabriel Hill, four events that mark the sustained development of Taekwon-Do in the country, which is reflected in an increase in the quantity and quality of students, higher volume of Dan grade promotions and opening new schools, all with the support of the highest authorities of the ITF

Back in September, once again highlighted the organizational capacity of the entity to materialize the second IKC (International Kids Course) held in South America and was led by one of the authors of the Official Program, Sabun Nim Fabian Izquierdo.

Our country also achieved several medals at the 2014 Pan American championships held in Asuncion, Paraguay and gives a clear international projection  for our competitors.

We invited Sabun Nim Germán Von Foerster of Argentina to impart an open class and a special for Dan grades related to different aspects of our sport, being a member of the Argentine Center Taekwon-Do for 34 years, his vast experience makes him one of the foremost instructors and coaches.

But the detail that stands out of this visit was the issuance of a class of instructors, specifically aimed at the integration of children with disabilities.

And as a corollary of such an important presence and tapping her experience as an instructor, also participated in the examination table last year working in student assessment.

But there was more activity since last Friday December 12th as we held a class led by Leonardo Oros Nim Sabum Duek, member of the executive committee of AETF and Israeli coach.

Invited by the Instructor Gabriel Hill, Oros Duek shared his knowledge about personal defense, warm up, fundamental movements and applications.

Note that this course had the consent of the Grand Master Hector Marano.

Taekwon-Do ITF Uruguay continues to grow and does not stop, since planning for next year includes participation in the World Championship in Italy,  and conducting numerous events.

Dear Grandmasters/masters/instructors/competitors,

Through this letter the first update for the “Open Dutch” Championships which will be on the 18th of January 2015 in Best, Netherlands. (closing date 5th of January, be aware of the Christmas holiday’s!) Important is to make clear that nobody can enter anymore after the closing date! This because draws will be made in advance and put on the Open Dutch website. So it means that if competitors are over their registered height or weight on the day of the competition he or she can not take part at the item of the competition! So coaches check the children’s height or weight! So that they not get disappointed at the day of the tournament!

The organization announce that we found Master Coos van de Heuvel from the Netherlands available to do the job as head umpire. With his experience at EC and WC will that not a problem.

This year we have again the tournament into 2 hall’s like previous year.

We found Master Harry Vones (ITF-Germany) available to check everything with electronic scoring system and draws.

We have the honour that Grandmaster Wim Bos (Chairman of the International Competition Course) is again present at our tournament with the Italian delegation. My Slovenian friend Tomaz Barada also a colleague of the ICC committee is present too.

On this link you go to the tournament website: or go to our Facebook pagina: Open Dutch Championships 2015. This year we have of course a nice t-shirt for all winners in the A-category.

But we have now also a t-shirt for those who like to buy it as a souvenir from the tournament. This can only through order in advance, for details look to the website.

Hope to see you all in January.

Master Willy van de Mortel
