Grandmaster Trân left us tragically one year ago. It was an inestimable loss for our family.
At the beginning of each new year, as our family reunites for the holidays, our father would invite us to sit together in order to reflect on the year that had just gone by and formulate personal objectives to make changes for the better. With time, we came to really appreciate how beneficial this exercise was for each of us. This year, we perpetuated the tradition without him physically, but with him in our hearts.
Needless to say how difficult these last months were. But following our father’s example, we kept a positive attitude. Like in sparring, when the battle becomes difficult, we must stay confident and find inner strength to get through the battle. In adversity, as we are often brought back to what is truly essential, we learn or realize again how privileged we are to have such good friends no matter how close or how far they are in the world. We are now learning to find equilibrium between tears and laughter, hard work and rest, being alone and being surrounded, accepting the help of others and handling things ourselves. Respect, integrity, self-control, perseverance and courage are tenets which will continue to guide us through this journey.
As a family, we went through major events which made us closer and stronger. We must not forget what our father wrote to us only a few days before he passed away: « life is short and thus, we should always enjoy every moment of it and remember to live according to strong moral beliefs to be happy ».
We take this opportunity to thank all of you from around the world for your prayers, thoughts and actions. Throughout all the words and testimonies we saw and understood how significant he has been in so many people’s lives. We realized even more how grandmaster Trân inspired people with his strong beliefs and how much he believed in them. As his children, we make the promise that we will take our responsibility to do our best in pursuing the legacy he left us and strongly hope you do the same.
We would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year 2011.
