IUC Successfully held in Jamaica

Jamaica is in preparation to host the 5th World Cup of Taekwon-Do on August 27-30, 2014 in Montego Bay Jamaica, at the Rose Hall Convention Centre. Master Alberto Katz visited the island of Jamaica to conduct a scheduled visit (on behalf of the ITF Tournament & Umpire committee) to confirm final competition hall technical discussions and final facility inspections. Master Katz arrived on Friday March 21, 2014. Meetings were held with the 2014 World Cup Organizing committee members. Visit of the championship Venue and Hotels were carried out. The Jamaica 2014 World Cup Organizing Committee and International Taekwon-do Federation are in high gear in preparing for this Major championship.

The opportunity was taken to conduct Jamaica’s first Taekwon-Do International Umpire Course (IUC) and conduct Information Technology (IT) Training seminar which was conducted by Master Alberto Katz (Chairman of the ITF Tournament Umpires committee) from Argentina.

The target group for the IT training were personnel who will be assigned to competition rings during World Cup 2014. This training was for tournament rules familiarization, software familiarization and basic software trouble shooting. This training seminar was held on Saturday March 23, 2014.

Both the Dkwon-do IUC and IT training seminar were hosted by the Jamaica Taekwon-Do Association and was held at the Ultimate Taekwon-Do Jamaica Gym, Shop #23 Lee Gore Business Centre, 31 Upper Waterloo Road Kingston 10 Jamaica (A member school of the Jamaica Taekwon-Do Association).

IT Personnel Training (Saturday March 22, 2014)

The IT Training took place on Saturday March 22, 2014 from 0900hrs until 1230hrs and saw 15 persons being trained in the use of the ITF Electronic Scoring System which will be utilized at the Taekwon-Do World Cup August 2014. Training was for World Cup tournament rules familiarization, software familiarization and basic software trouble shooting. This training was carried out successfully.

International Umpire Course (Saturday – Sunday March 22-23, 2014)

The Taekwon-Do International Umpires Course (IUC) was held during the afternoon of Saturday (1400hrs to 1830hrs) March 22, 2014 and continued into Sunday March 23, 2014 from 0900hrs to 1400hrs.  There were thirty four (34) participants in attendance. The target group were Jamaican Athletes, Coaches and Umpires. This included blue belts to Master Black belt and included an age group of pre-juniors to veterans. There was representation from Trinidad and Tobago Taekwon-Do Federation in the from of Mr Frank Eugene (4 Dan).

The IUC was carried out successfully. The feedback from the participants (Athletes, Coaches  & Umpires) indicated that the course was well delivered by Master Alberto Katz and was well received by all. The atmosphere was high in anticipation for the amazing event which will hit the shores of Jamaica in August 2014.
