NETHERLANDS - DUTCH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dutch National Championships

On Sunday 25th of November the 25th edition of the national championships ITF Taekwon-Do in the Netherlands were held in Capelle aan de IJssel. Hosting the event this year were Sabum Art van der Lee and Sabum John Verkerke in mane of their club Oh Do Kwan, together with the national Tournament & Umpire committee concisting of Master Coos van den Heuvel, Sabum Patrick den Hoed, Sabum Emiel Kloor, Boosabum Corine Kool and mr. Henny van Zon.

The day started with an opening conducted by Sabum Art van der Lee. After this opening, all competitors bowed to the referees and the enthusiastic spectators. Directly after the official opening the word was given to Master James Tjin-A-Ton, the president of ITF-Netherlands. The new board of directors of ITF-Netherlands was introduced, and a present for former national coach Sabum Chiel Rombout was presented. After many years of hard work and great progress Sabum Chiel Rombout resigned earlier this year from his function as national coach. Besides a nice plaque he was given a special coupon for his second great love: kitesurfing. Also a new member club of ITF-Netherlands, TA Nimjae, which recently joined our organization, was introduced.

 Mr. Art van der Lee

All competitors had the chance to fight and earn the title of national champion in all disciplines: Pattern, Sparring, Power Test, Special Techniques and Pre-Arranged Sparring. Given the fact that there were more than 280 competitors from 20 schools from all parts of the Netherlands, a high level of competition was guaranteed. Also, there were more than 60 referees present.

The day started with Patterns. The level throughout the day was high, and many beautiful and well-conducted patterns where presented to the umpires and spectators. After patterns were completed, sparring was started. It was good to see the different styles of fighting taught to the students by the coaches. Different tactics were presented, leading to all well-earned victories. In between sparring matches the other spectacular disciplines were performed: Special Techniques, Pre-Arranged Sparring and Power Test.

At the end of the day we can look back at a very successful tournament, and we can be proud of all students. Of course not all competitors won a medal, but participating is more important than winning. Congratulations to all the National Championsare of course in order!

On behalf of all competitors, coaches, parents and spectators, we want to thank everyone who helped for their efforts during this day! At the same time, we can look forward to the next Dutch National Championships, which will be organized by Master Willy van de Mortel and his club Difesa.
